Abstract
- The article reports that in October 2013 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Mary Jo White questioned whether self-regulation remained a viable method of oversight for stock exchanges. She said the emergence of exchanges as competitors to brokerages, and changes in market structure and trading practices were among developments that made it advisable for the SEC to reconsider supervision of the industry.
