An interview with Portuguese sociologist José Madureira Pinto is presented. Particular focus is given to his work on sociological research at the Gabinete de Investigações Sociais, as well as his career as a teacher at the Universidade do Porto in Porto, Portugal. Topics discussed include the influence of Portuguese professor Armando Castro in his work, the evolution of the studies of sociology in Portugal, and the concept of public sociology.
