According to the arguments, the Democrats want him to cancel the trip but the American public would see the cancellation as electoral panic. Secondly, it is vital that the U.S. maintain its political ties and tight defense link with Japan. It is stated that irresponsible nationalist forces on both sides are threatening to tear the political ties asunder.
