Study on the association between the MTHFR gene C677T polymorphism and venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the Chinese population.

Objective To evaluate the association between the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene C677T polymorphism and venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the Chinese population. Methods Relevant articles were retrieved from a systematic search of Medline and Chinese electronic literature from 2000 to May 2012. Two independent reviewers abttracted data on the characteristics of the cases with VTE and controls without VTE. Results We pooled the odds ratio (OR) of VTE in the presence of the TT versus CC or CT genotypes. In 12 published studies which comprised 943 cases and 2506 controls, the pooled OR 1. 75, 95% confidence interval (CI) was 1. 41 -- 2. 17.
