Abstract: Soluble in aqueous acids phthalocyanine ligands and metallophthalocyanines, containing the peripheral pyridine fragments were synthesized from the corresponding phthalodinitriles. The quaternization of the pyridine-containing phthalocyanines using 2-chloroethanol afforded water-soluble phthalocyanine ligands and metal complexes. The new compounds were characterized by NMR, EAS, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
