Abstract

Highlights: [•] The acute toxicity of PFOA to P. putida was studied by microcalorimetry. [•] The interaction of PFOA with Cr (III) and TBA was antagonistic. [•] Free NH3 could not be a significant contributor to the observed toxicity of PFOA. [•] A substantial enhancement of the surface pressure of PFOA due to TBA is observed. [•] The higher the surface pressure, the lower the toxicity of PFOA. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
