Abstract

The article argues that mass media and the press are aggravating further the African American crisis in the U.S. in the wake of the mass riots that occurred in Los Angeles, California in April 1992. It reveals that the root cause of such riots are racism and discriminatory economics. It demonstrates the bias of the criminal-justice system in the U.S. justifying that more African Americans are in jail because they commit more crimes. It proposes a number of media bias on its attitude toward the police. One is police brutality cases in New York as shown by the press on television.
