Abstract
- The author discusses the importance of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in the nation's family support infrastructure where it offers monthly income to help low-income parents afford high costs of raising children with disabilities. He cites media attacks on SSI and recent attempts to reduce the federal budget by cutting SSI. He points out that balancing the federal budget at the expense of low-income parents struggling to raise their children with disabilities makes no financial sense.
