Abstract
- This article reports that Kenneth Clarke, a home secretary of 50 Queen Anne's Gate, London this week pleaded "not guilty" to charges of assaulting the police. He denied allegations that he had conspired frontally to attack the structure of British policing, insisting that Britain had "a first-class police service" of which it could be "justly proud". Mr Clarke put himself in the dock. For months he has been breathing violent intent against the police, their inability to catch criminals, their cost, their inefficiency and their antiquated management structure.
