Abstract

Part of the reason for the failure of magnetically controlled Abrikosov vortex flow devices has been low magnetic coupling coefficients, combined with pinning: control currents tend to drive the control electrode normal before sufficient flux is coupled to the flux flow channel to overcome pinning. We have observed that interesting devices may use direct injection of flux, without an isolated control electrode. Experimental studies using opposite polarity currents show dramatic effects in device characteristics; simulations show that these effects are manifestations of vortex interactions.
