The article examines the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 in which four U.S. diplomats died. It is reported that the attack was conducted by members of militias in that city who were both opponents and supposed allies of U.S. interests in Libya and largely motivated by anger over a video recording criticizing Islam produced in the U.S. It is reported the attack was not the responsibility of the terrorist group al Qaeda.
