¿MÁS ALLÁ DE LOS ESCOLTAS Y LOS CHAMANES? ENFOQUE DIFERENCIAL Y PROTECCIÓN DE LÍDERES INDÍGENAS EN MDEIO DEL CONFLICTO ARMADO.

Indigenous leaders are key players for the survival of the indigenous peoples of Colombia, who are at risk of physical and cultural extermination due to the armed conflict and its related factors. This paper critically analyzes the adoption and implementation of differential ethnic approach in the protection of indigenous leaders. The protection program for human rights defenders – including indigenous leaders- in charge of the National Protection Unit of the Ministry of Interior is analyzed in depth. Dilemmas of protecting indigenous leaders as such, in all its specificity and not as any citizens, are also studied. The paper ends with some conclusions and recommendations aiming an effective inclusion of a differential ethnic approach in protecting indigenous leaders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
