Abstract

The article covers a January 17, 2014 speech by U.S. President Barack Obama in which he indicated plans to revise how the government collects and uses telephone records after complaints that surveillance by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) violated civil liberties. According to Obama, prior court approval would be required when an agency analyst wants access to calling records while eavesdropping on leaders of allied countries would be banned. INSET: Obama's Changes to Government Surveillance.
