Abstract

The article examines education in Great Britain. The poor performance of students on national standardized General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) tests in secondary schools on the Isle of Wight is discussed as an example of an anomaly in which poor white students from primarily white communities have become the group which does worst in the GSCE, while students from urban schools with large populations of minorities and immigrants have seen improved scores.
