Abstract
- The article discusses whether white authors can write multicultural characters. Some like author Dianne Johnson-Feelings argue that having white voices tell non-white stories no more promotes multiculturalism than having a cast of all white characters. The article argues that where novels by minority writers are scarce, authors like Gary Paulsen and Sherry Garland have represented minority experiences well. African American characters present more complex issues for white writers.
