Abstract
- This article focuses on the policy of the U.S. Republican Party to promote child tax credits in the U.S. The tax credit shows the commitment of the Party to promote traditional families. This tax credit plan is embedded in Senator Newt Gingrich's economic package called Contract With America. The child tax credit will not have any significant influence on the economic policy of the nation. It can be considered as an effort to attract middle-class voters. Furthermore, in this plan, childless couples, single taxpayers, and older couples over 18 years of age, would get no tax cut at all. Heritage Foundation economist Scott Hodge, estimated that the $500-per-child tax credit would benefit 52 million children, or 36 million families. Hodge believes that such tax credit will lay the framework of other tax cuts.
