Abstract

In this paper, the design methods of the auxiliary excitation capacitors and the filter inductances are investigated for the dual stator-winding induction generator (DWIG) variable frequency ac (VFAC) generating system with inductive and capacitive loads, and the system static performance is presented as well. For this generating system, the proper selection of the auxiliary excitation capacitors and the filter inductances can minimize the reactive power capacity of the control winding, reduce the capacity of the static excitation converter (SEC) and improve the system static performance of the output voltage. The corresponding design principles and methods are proposed based on the change law of the control-winding reactive power and the requirements of the control-winding current. The experimental results show that the proposed design methods are correct and valid, and the DWIG VFAC generating system has a good static performance with the minimum-capacity control-winding reactive power and a compact-size SEC.
