Abstract

Highlights: [•] Elevated CO2 enhanced carbon accumulation in rice during its entire life cycle. [•] However, plants grown at elevated CO2 had low levels of phenolic compounds. [•] At maturity, elevated CO2 increased the concentrations of phenolic compounds in rice. [•] Following acclimation of photosynthesis, phenolics were increased by elevated CO2. [•] Following a disease attack, levels of phenolics were also increased by elevated CO2. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
