Abstract

During the Cold War, Mongolia was a member of the Asian countries among the group dominated by the Soviet Union, and a member of the Council of Mutual Economic Assistance. The great changes of the Soviet Union and East Europe in the 1980s and 1990s had profoundly affected Mongolia, which in turn relinquished its highly centralized regime and planned economy and started the transition.
