Abstract

The article discusses the role of the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant meltdown in increasing U.S. power plants' preparation for accidents and natural disasters as of March 9, 2014. Topics addressed include increased amounts of emergency equipment such as trucks, generators, and hoses at power plants; scientists' concerns with nuclear power plants' vulnerabilities to disasters such as floods and earthquakes; and the design of the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania.
