Abstract

The article reflects on a remark by Joseph Lane Jr. about war and Thucydides. It states that Thucydides functions as a mirror for society during Cold War, Gulf War, Iraq War and war on terror. It relates a disagreement between Kissinger and Reagan over the analogy between the Peloponnesian War and Cold War and the critical reactions to the attempts of Victor Hanson and Donald Kagan to apprehend wars in the Middle East through the lens of Thucydides.
