Abstract

In this article the author focuses on the manifest incoherence and absurdity of current First Amendment doctrine. The author further discusses the historical origins and the ideological meaning of disestablishment and constitutional pluralism, the relevance of this framework for some contemporary issues and importance of conscience and dissent to the basic meaning of the First Amendment.
