Abstract

Historical studies and reports on the human body are affected by history and culture, as viewed through what is deemed appropriate by the people of the time. When looking back, the historical memory of a culture also appears to affect the different perspectives that emerge from the common actions, speeches and ideas about social and cultural health processes of the time. In this paper we consider one specific representative issue of these processes: The social representations of health and illness as related to drug advertising of the late nineteenth century, from printed materials, focusing on the dynamics and key features of the advertising process. In this vein, we made efforts to identify the importance of analyzing of advertising documents and images to interpret historical press publications from Mexico in the nineteenth century.
