Abstract

This paper looks at the extent adult day care services and adult protective services overlap in meeting the needs of chronically ill adults. Utilizing content analysis and a case study approach, the problems and progress of five patients admitted to an adult day care program in western Massachusetts are examined in relationship to admission criteria for both programs. Analysis reveals a need for a range of day care models. The paper also cites duplication of effort by health and social service programs in case management responsibilities and proposes a "responsibility sharing" service coordination model which may benefit communities.
