Investigates the photoredox behavior of chloromercurate(II) complexes in acetonitrile. Elucidation of the effects of the number of coordinated ligands on photoactivity; Determination of reaction mechanism for the photochemical reactions; Ligand-to-metal charge transfer transition observed in the ultraviolet spectra of mercuric chloride and its tri and tetrachloro species in acetonitrile.
