Abstract

The article discusses reasons why traditional metal toxicity tests do not offer relevant data for aquatic insects. These reasons include a lot of time required to reach steady state tissue concentrations from water, possibility that dietary sources-obtained metals could be more physiologically active as compared to metals obtained from dissolved exposures, and the view that traditional understanding of dissolved acute toxicity mechanisms may not be applicable to aquatic insects.
