Abstract
- Background: HIV-infections are one of the most important worldwide problems of public health. Causal agent is a retrovirus, HIV 1, infecting preferently lymphocytes CD4 cooperators. Objective: To determine the dermatological manifestations affecting patients with HIV attended at Clinic of Sexual Transmitted Infections of Dermatological Center Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua, Mexico City, and its relation to lymphocytes CD4 amount. Material and method: A cross-sectional and retrolective study analyzed data from patients attended at Clinic of Sexually Transmitted Infections from 2005 to 2011, files from HIV-positive patients were reviewed, corroborated by serology; viral load, lymphocytes T CD4 and dermatological manifestations were assessed. Results: 1,594 patients from Clinic of Sexually Transmitted Infections were registered; from them, 280 were seropositive (16.6%), the highest number of cases (n=113) was found with cells CD4 between 200 and 499 (40.3%); 25% (70 patients) had a viral load higher than 55,000 copies/mL. Predominant dermatoses were from infectious origin, 316 cases, viral and mycotic infections predominated with viral load of 200 and 499 CD4. Conclusions: Infectious dermatosis predominated in our group of population, viral diseases, among them, condyloma acuminata, were the most frequent with 200-499 cells CD4, followed by superficial mycoses. A statistically significant difference in the correlation of dermatosis amount and lymphocytes CD4 was not confirmed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
