Abstract

An essay is presented on some ways the U.S. media has changed and its threat to the future of wildlife and civil society if left unchecked. Topics include the consequences of market segmentation caused by competition between traditional television and radio stations with cable and satellite channels for advertisers and audiences, the impact of advertisers' interests on the sensitivity to environmental issues that threaten wildlife, and how the public can fight back.
