The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 reinserted the issue of immigration into the media, along to questions related to (in) security and (un)employment. The foreigner, the other, came to be characterized as a threat in a discursive system that blended fiction and reality: both in movies and in news, the immigrant has been presented as a problem to be solved, in speeches that are reinforced, constituting what can be termed as hegemonic discourse. In this paper, based on Gramsci and Robert Stam theoretical framework, we seek to identify aspects of a counter-hegemonic discourse into the film Welcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
