Abstract

Tissue fragments for histopathological analysis from 12 cows that were submitted to emergency slaughter under federal inspection, in a slaughterhouse in the region of Araguaína-TO, between january and june 2013, were sent to the Laboratório de Patologia Veterinária da Universidade Federal do Tocantins. The most significant changes were fine vacuolization of hepatocytes by reducing glycogen (83.3%), pulmonary congestion (75%), pulmonary edema (16.66%), pneumonia (16.66%), renal congestion (58, 33%) and granular cylinders (25%). The stress, duration of transport, water and food restriction cause physiological changes to the animals, which result in recommendation for emergency 1 slaughter and condemnation or conditional use of carcass. Tissue lesions founded reinforce that the guideline based on RIISPOA is correct. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
