Abstract
- The article presents the author's views on the efforts of the organization National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) to improve mathematics education in the U.S. by launching the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). Topics discussed include core principles for a school mathematics program, curriculum, and evaluation. NCTM's Principles to Actions, a guideline to fill the gap between the adoption of CCSSM and successful implementation, is also discussed.
