Abstract
- Reports that on May 16, 1996, President Bill Clinton promised to seek an extension of China's most-favored-nation (MFN) trade status, even as his administration edged closer to a showdown with Beijing over copyright piracy. Approach which will hopefully gain a bargaining edge with Chinese rulers and show a skeptical Congress that Clinton will not cave in to China and its huge trade potential; MFN issues; Questionable double standard.
