Abstract

The main objective of this research is to examine / analyze the behaviours of academicians in presenting themselves on Facebook platform. Thus, starting from Goffman's Dramaturgical Theory and theories of self-presentations, it will be figured out how the academicians perform behaviours of their own self-presentations on Facebook social network. The researcher, on account of the fact it fits more to the spirit of the research, utilized a mixed method / methodology by setting the qualitative and quantitative research methods to work together, and thus, figuring the research in the way that the quantitative methods corroborated the qualitative ones. The researcher, in this study, made a face-to-face in-depth interview with 10 academicians to be able to answer the research questions within the study, and along with these interviews, content analysis was applied to 10 photos- in total 100 photos- that the academicians chose from among the others in their profile. During the research, the qualitative data were analyzed by means of descriptive analysis, while the photos were interpreted through content analysis. As the result of the research, it was observed that the academicians preferred tactics of self-presentation for self-introduction, such as endearing themselves to others, setting an example and self-revelation on Facebook; besides that, it was also seen that they employed tactics of self-presentation for self-protection on Facebook, different from the other studies.
