The article examines the life and work of the Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla. Particular focus is given to his time spent in the U.S. in the early-20th century and to relations between Spain and the U.S. The exhibition "Sorolla and America," which is on view at the San Diego Museum of Art in San Diego, California, through August 26, 2014 is also noted.
