Abstract

This article presents tips for writing research papers, when backing up arguments. Some tips on finding sources and attributing them is examined and provides hints to make a research paper an argument with facts rather than a recitation of them. The author's organization and analysis can transform a collection of data into a thoughtful and intelligent piece of writing. Primary and secondary sources are the two varieties of evidence. A paper about one's family history will rely on primary sources (interviews with parents, family birth records) but might involve secondary sources (such as the Ellis Island Web site). INSET: ASSIGNMENT.
