Abstract
- The article presents a case study of membrane manufacturing by chemical companies such as BASF and LANXESS for use in water treatment. Topics discussed include the standardization of design in reverse osmosis (RO) which made RO the standard seawater desalination technology, the emergence of legislative drivers for cryptosporidium and virus removal in drinking water which led to the adoption of membrane filtration technology, and the substantial product improvements achieved by membrane makers.
