Abstract

The article discusses accusations that Sheriff James R. Metts of Lexington County, South Carolina accepted bribes in order to free restaurant workers for the San Jose Mexican Restaurant chain who were being held as illegal immigrants. Topics addressed include a program in South Carolina in which law enforcement officers can initiate the deportation process for detainees that they suspect are in the U.S. illegally, as well as charges against the restaurants' owner, Gregorio M. Leon.
