Abstract
- Discusses the belief that work in the medieval urban context was unproblematic, and encouraged an oversimplified understanding of those who performed it. Concern over master craftsmen who are referred to by Anglophone scholars as craft guilds; Well-being of workers and the quality of their products; Perception that the official craft institutions tended to operate as monopolies of independent masters; Characterization of work in medieval cities.
