Literacy: A process of interpreting the world as a text.

Opinion. Argues that to learn to read and write we need to understand the world around us including our own lives as a text to be interpreted. What would contribute to the decline in literacy; Concern in schools and society for scribal literacy which is likely to be losing battle if the importance of lay literacy is overlooked.
