Reports that Japan's genetics-related research budgets could triple in 1998. Areas where the money will go such as the rice genome project; The Science and Technology Agency putting money towards a new Genetic Frontier Research Center; How some would like to see money go to research into the human genome project; How the University of Tokyo's Human Genome Center is filled with sequencers but lacks money to run them.
