The 24th edition of the Romanian Librarians' Association (RLA) National Conference was held on the 4th to 6th September in Oradea. The event brought together over 300 specialists - librarians, teachers, specialists in information science, publishers from Romania or abroad. Under the title "Library - Knowledge, Research, Culture", the conference papers and presentations, conducted during the first two days, were divided into 12 professional sections: Statistics and Assessment; Library Legislation and Professional Development; Documentalist Teachers; Acquisitions and Collection Development; Pedagogical Techniques in Libraries, Information Literacy; Automation/Computerisation; Old Books, Conservation, Restoration, Digitization; Document Circulation and Interlibrary Loan; Periodicals; References; Cataloguing, Classification, Indexing. The representatives of local authorities in Bihor County and the ones of the University of Oradea and of its library, the RLA President, Professor Mircea Regneală, the Counsellor for Foreign Affairs of the US Embassy, Bruce Kleiner delivered speeches at the opening ceremony; the general manager of the National Library, Associate Professor Elena Tîrziman and the director of the "Ion Creangă" National Children's Library in Chişinău, Claudia Balaban also presented papers. Other highlights of the conference were the launch of volumes Librarianship Treatise (Vol. 1: General Librarianship) published by the RLA with the support of the Centre for Information and Resources of the US Embassy and Ink and Souls. Aspects of Higher Education in Oradea. 1963-2013, about the university life in Oradea reflected for over 50 years in the press and in the academic work and activity of some academic figures. Several exhibitions were also organised: University of Oradea - Historical Overview; Books of the Secret Fund of the University of Oradea Library; Oradea University Journals: 1963-2013; Books and Libraries - Children's Friends; Children of Romanian Villages, and an exhibition of books published by the RLA.
