Abstract

The article discusses how scientists who mapped the genome sequences of human ancestors, the Neanderthal and Denisovan, using ancient bones have discovered that modern day humans carry about 20 percent of their ancient DNA. Topics include how the original paper outlining the findings and written by geneticist Sriram Sankararaman and colleagues was published in the journal "Nature," how our Neanderthal DNA impacts our risk for disease, and the link between Denisovans and Tibetans.
