Abstract
- This paper is divided into two main parts. The first one describes the computation of the number of lightning strokes that directly hit transmission lines as well as those strokes that hit the earth’s surface near a line and can provoke very high overvoltages. The second one describes a process for computing the consequent short circuits in a line caused by both types of stroke incidence. In the companion paper, some application examples are presented.
