The Past and Future of Technology in Interpersonal Communication Theory and Research.

The article offers a proposition about the nature of association between medium and message as well as approaches that may be used by future interpersonal communication researchers to explore in future research and theory development. Topics covered include a four-category typology delineating mediated communication suggested by R. Cathcart and G. Gumpert, scope of Facebook communication, and the future of mediated communication. Also cited is a basic definition of interpersonal communication.
