Abstract

A case study of fiscal sustainability in Los Angeles, California, as of Summer 2014 is presented. It examines the imbalanced distribution and geographic concentration of wealth and an aging population as driving forces in fiscal stress for the city. The article discusses Los Angeles's geography and political organization, unemployment, and economic conditions. It also examines the role of the agency the Los Angeles Chief Administrative Office (CAO), compares and contrasts Los Angeles with Los Angeles County, California, and discusses the development of partnerships and community groups.
