Abstract

This paper analyses the formation and consolidation of the regular army bodies established in the Intendancy of Concepcion in the late colonial period, with particular emphasis, as much to the frontier character of the region as the different strategies implemented by local elites in order to coopt the military institutionality. First, and using the prosopographic method, we build a profile of the frontier's soldiers, analyzing its composition and evolution of those cadres early nineteenth century. Subsequently, we focus on the relational field of the officers, through the analysis of family networks, their relationships, and the performance of their members in the different areas of local government, in the face of the crash of the monarchy.
