Abstract

The article discusses a study on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) that affects its affinity for androgens or estrogens. Noted is the structure of each subunit of SHBG, which is consists of two laminin G-like domains. It is said that one of the implications of the findings of the study for clinical chemistry is that it calls for the reassessment of formulas use for calculating free or bioavailable sex steroids.
