Abstract

Thedistilled fraction (DF) from bio-oil molecular distillation can beused for the generation of aromatic hydrocarbons by cocracking withethanol over HZSM-5. In this work, typical model compounds were selectedto simulate the DF, and a modified Ga2O3/HZSM-5was adopted to promote the aromatization reaction. Compared with unmodifiedHZSM-5, 15% Ga2O3/HZSM-5 could increase theyield of the oil phase from 31.5 to 39.2 wt % during cocracking ofa mixture of model compounds and ethanol, with an obvious decreasein the C3–C4gaseous hydrocarbon yield. Moreover, the total content of aromatic hydrocarbons in the oil phasewas around 95%. The production of monoaromatics, especially xylenes, was favored. The influences of reaction temperature and feedstockweight hourly space velocity (WHSV), as well as the catalyst regeneration, were also investigated. On the basis of the experimental results,a reaction mechanism is proposed and the promotion of aromatic hydrocarbongeneration by Ga2O3is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
