Abstract

The author discusses the study "ADAM17 promotes proliferation of collecting duct kidney epithelial cells through ERK activation and increased glycolysis in polycystic kidney disease" by M. Beck Gooz and colleagues, published in the issue. The study investigates the effects of metalloprotease ADAM17 on epidermal growth factor (EGF) family growth factors and cell proliferation in autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) and adds potential of ADAM's inhibitors in treatment of PKD.
