Abstract
- A panel on “The War on Iraq: Implications and Consequences,” sponsored by the Hagop Kevorkian Center and the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, took place in New York City University's downtown Manhattan campus on March 28, 2003. Joel Beinin of Palo Alto, California-based Stanford University addressed the war's implications for the Middle East. The results of a recent opinion survey found that 70 percent of Arabs consider Palestine the most important political issue. Yet, at Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's request, the U.S. President George W. Bush administration had repeatedly delayed publication of the latest peace proposal, the Quartet's road map. Robin Kelley, chair of the history department at NYU, spoke about the war's racial implications. According to Roger Normand, executive director of the Center for Economic and Social Rights, it is impossible to exaggerate the illegality of this war.
